Hope Nepal

The Story of Hope for Children

The idea was birthed in the hearts of Patsy and her father, Pastor Bill Behrman, while they were ministering in Nepal in February of 2006.  In Kathmandu they visited several orphanages, observing first-hand the children who had been rescued and how their lives had been changed.

It was then the Lord began to stir Patsy’s heart about meeting the needs of the hurting children in Nepal. Patsy and her father began to pray about it and soon sensed that it was God’s will to take the steps to make it happen.

Pastor Behrman contacted his friend, Pastor D.K. Daniel, and asked him what could be done to start this home. They then found out that it had been on Pastor D.K.’s heart to have a children’s home as well. His vision was to have a place where the children would be nurtured in a loving home atmosphere. Together they began to make plans to launch New Hope for Children.

In the summer of 2006, New Hope for Children began in a rented home.  Initially there were seven children and then the number grew to fifteen.  As more children came into the home, it became apparent that a larger house was needed.  Though the rented home was new and had adequate space, the rent continued to increase 20% per year, it had no yard or place for the children to play being adjoined to a busy street. Overflowing sewers and threats to drinking water were also an issue.

It was then decided to take steps to build a home on the church compound. Patsy, Pastor Behrman, and Pastor D.K. shared the vision to build the home that would accommodate twenty children, Pastor D.K.’s family, and workers. Funds began to come in for the construction of the new home and then a long-time friend of Tony and Patsy’s told her that his church would cover the remaining cost of the building.  With grateful hearts rejoicing, they were able to give the go ahead and construction began in the fall of 2010. Accompanied by a team from the USA, Patsy dedicated the unfinished building in March and occupation was scheduled for September 2011.

We are thrilled to see the progress in the lives of the children! They have all come from desperate situations, not all orphaned, but all facing a hopeless future. They now experience God’s love through Pastor D.K. and his family and there have been remarkable changes. They are now happy kids, lovingly cared for, with most doing well in school and best of all, they each have come to love and know the Lord!

We believe that God, through the ministry of New Hope for Children rescuing and nurturing these boys and girls through Christ’s love, will bring blessing and leadership to the people of Nepal in the years to come.

Thank you to the friends and co-partners who make New Hope for Children a place of new beginnings for the children of Nepal! We believe with you that God will turn and transform this generation through Jesus Christ and the work being done at New Hope for Children.
