Finding By Losing

When something is lost, the normal way to find it, is to go looking for it. The Lord gave us an odd way to find our lives. Matthew 10:38-39 And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. (ESV)

Isn’t that odd? Jesus instructed us to lose our life so that we might find it?

Jesus said we find our life by taking up our cross. (Matt 10:38) Taking up our cross is the opposite of figuring it out on our own, manufacturing a plan, or seeking out opportunities.

Paul the apostle thought he came up with a good plan and went about persecuting Christians. Then the Lord stopped him and said go into the city and I’ll show you my cross for your life. Acts 9:5 And he said, “Who are you, Lord?” And he said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. Acts 9:6 But rise and enter the city, and you will be told what you are to do.” (ESV) When Paul entered the city, heard the Lord’s plan for his life, he then found his life and took up his cross.

What is a starting point for every Christian to take up their cross? Jesus made it really simple. Luke 9:59a To another he said, “Follow me.” (ESV)

Let’s follow Him and find our lives!

Every blessing to each of you,

Tony
